Who are The Australian Dudes?

Our team is made up mostly of Australians, spread around the country and the globe! We are like minded individuals, interested in the applications of distributed computing and co-operative anarchy. Started with mostly programmers and systems administrators (so there's plenty of people to help you get started) we now have a wide variety of team members.

Why the name 'Australian Dudes'? Anyone at all can be an Australian Dude - it's really a state of mind.

We finished DES-II at 83rd. A great effort, but we'd like to show the world we can do better. We need your help! Joining is easy and offers you the chance to :

What distributed computing applications?

We're currently the among the premier teams in the Australian (.au) domain contributing to the distributed.net meta-team's attempt to brute force crack an RSA 64-bit ciphered message. We need your help! Our SETI team (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) has been started, but hasn't had a lot of work done yet. These code cracking projects are really just keeping us going while we await other projects such as : prime number factoring, chess computing and more projects that are yet to be though of. Even commercial projects are starting now that will pay for our spare computer time!

If you'd like to help us but don't like reading the manual, please go to the distributed.net pages and download a client for your computer. From there it's very easy! Be sure to enter your email address in the client. Once your stats appear on the stats server, you can assign your computer's work to our team. Our team name on the distributed.net web site is :

That's all there is to it - just leave that running as long as you can as a background task on your computer and any others in your control. Note: it doesn't take up much bandwidth and the clients will run in the background without taking performance away from your machine. The goal is to utilise spare CPU time after all.

How do I keep up to date?

We have our own mailing list for the effort. The list is low volume and is used for 2 things. Firstly to help each other out of any problems related to running the distributed.net clients, secondly to carry news from the distributed.net headquarters (like when the new clients are ready.)
